I pull a JD Model 80 in my local pulling club. Without me on it - I weight in at just over (like 20 pound or something 10,000. I pull it in the 8500-10,500 pound class and do pretty good as long as I have a nice firm track.

On a loose track, my 18.4-34's don't quite match up to the 20.8-28's that the two other guys in my class pull (one with a 830) and the other with a Seaman's with a detroit 2-cycle diesel.

BTW.. at our annual show, I beat the socks off them (love that nice just-rain-on track.

Oh, yes, in the 80/820/830 line, if you want a reall puller, get one with (or switch over to) the creeper gear for 1st. I've never ran out of HP/torque - just traction.

We have one guy who's got an 830 weighed down to 22,000 pounds (with 28.8-28's...) He's almost unstopable (but I've yet to see him on a good clay track.

Richard, Iam not a diesel puller, but I do pull a stock 720LP standard with 18.4-30s, no liquid, but I do have wheel weights and suitcase weights. I pull in the 8500lb and 9500lb classes and have beaten {Rs} and 820s but also have been beaten by a 630LP row crop with 13.6-38s.We pull for fun and everyone has a good time. All the sleds around here are set up for slow speed,3mph or less,so we pull in 1st gear only.It is amazing at how slow you can pull a creeper gear two cylinder John Deere tractor with the front wheels off the ground and still have enough power to spin out instead of killing the motor. Richard,
I pull a stock 830 in the 10,000 # class. I have four weights inside each rear wheel. It's E. start. Has 18.4-34 bias with no fluid. The tractor is set up just the way I bought it. I fixed the pto and had it dyno'ed. It's a little short, so I've got some checking to do.

On your tires, ...have you considered 20.8-34's??
I saw a dolled up 820 in north GA pull with them. It looked and worked pretty good. I don't know if there are width rules, but thought 20.8 might be an option. You would need only wider rims.
Just my thought.
Bill

Richard,
more of a question than, an answer. I've always wanted to pull one of the big two bangers in the 9000, and 10,000 pound classes, but was always worried about getting the power to the ground. Do you have trouble in those light classes? If not, what type of tires and set up do you use? Thanks any info is apprechiated. Later, Greg H.

hey greg; we run 18-4 34 firestones on rear; 8-14 lbs. air pessure;wheelie bars are a must;tractor weighs 8450 with driver bare;8500 class is ok;9000 class front wheels start to dance;10000 class this tractor starts to shine;11500 and over class is awsome, lot's of smoke & 6-10 inch exhaust flame;we have 26 140 pound rear wheel weights and 24 suitcase weights; we can move weight around on tractor to get balance right. weight balance is critical. going to put 18-4 38 firestones on the rear sometime this summer.we have alot of horsepower at 1000engine rpm;seldom drops below this. got to go. stay in touch. heavyweights rule. richard

WOW these tractors can pull. I pull in the 8,500lbs with a JD 730 gas widefront. I have a VERY tough time beating the 820 that pulls in my class. I am looking for a 830 to add to my collection of tractors. So if anyone knows of a 80/820/830 for sale email me. Thanks
