Well since this is my first encounter with the transmission on a B and I needed to take the one fork out for replacement. I got the fork out, no problem. NOw there is a little spring/rod in each shifting fork, at least there was, it is now somewhere in the tranny. I need to get it out! How should I go about doing this? also how do I get this tiny spring thingy back into the fork for reinstalation?

Thanks,

Karl

When you get the parts out of the case, magnet,
wire, water hose, gum on a stick etc.
Put the detent back in the fork and use a cotter pin to hold the spring and detent compressed there is a hole in the fork for that purpose. slide the shifter shaft in place then remove the cotter key. Next time put the cotter key in before removing the shaft to save on time, tobacco, booze or whatever.

Amen on saving the cigarettes, been there and done that!! A magnet on a rod run around the bottom will bring it out also. Get a really bright light and you may be able to see it down in there.
