I have a 2030 John Deere with a gas engine that quit. I want to replace it with a diesel engine. I believe a 3300 combine used the same engine, but don't know if it will bolt up or not. Has anyone changed an engine in a 2030. Does anyone know if the later 239 cu in engine will work? Appreciate any help. Thanks.

Harold-- If you find a diesel for it you are in for a ton of work. You will be changing throddle linkage, air flow or air intake filter housings and so on. You might be better to go and find a diesel tractor and get rid of the gasser. In short the engine is not the only thing your are going to change. Might go to a JD dealership and ask a machanic what he thinks. Just trying to help luckydog

Harold, You are correct, a 3300 diesel combine had a 219 engine and was the same diesel engine if your 2030 would have came from the factory with a diesel. I have repowered many John Deere tractors over the years Dubuque and Waterloo built. You have many options on the 2030 as far as what will fit. The Dubuque tractors like yours are the most economical to repower and the least difficult. The different diesel engines that would fit in your tractor are 202 (would not recommend) 219, 239, 276, 3.9(newer 239) or 4.5 (newer 276). The only thing that you want to watch when selecting the engine if you chose to go with a 239 or 3.9, is that the engine you chose is a structural block. These engines were available with and without structural design. A tractor requires a structural block. A dealer can tell you which it is off the serial number and appearance if he knows what he is looking at. The nice thing about repowering these little tractors is that the air cleaner, oil pan, rear housing that is between the block and clutch housing, and flywheel are all the same between the gas and diesel models. These parts can be reused/ removed from your original gas engine and put right back on your new diesel engine. You may have to get a different front pulley depending on what application your new engine came out of. The correct pulley is required to hook up your hydraulic pump. You may have to switch the tachometer drive on the back of the cam (No big deal). The only other thing that you will need is the air pipe that hooks the air cleaner to the engine, a different starter as the diesel requires a different one and one more battery. These tractors are commonly found in large salvage yards today and most these parts are the same on other utility models. 2630, 2440, 2640 etc. If you decide to do it and have any questions just holler. You will be impressed when you go from the old sick gas to a spunky little diesel. Good Luck!! Dave Wickman

the 3300 used the same engine as the 2030,and yes it would bolt up,you would have to change the flywheel.and possibly the damper pulley, the 239 is probably the same block
