I have a 1950 John Deere B that I am currently restoring, the one brake I took out of the tractor, took of the bolt and cannot get the cover off to get inside, used some hammer persuation with no luck, the brake pedal is in the disengaged position. Any ideas on how I should take this thing apart?

Thanks,

Karl

well it is kinda fun to get off, Most of the time they are rusted on there pretty good. Now that you have the nut off, soak it real good with some pb blaster or wd-40, around the shaft. You can try and put the nut back on a little ways and tap the end of the shaft to see if it loosens...but be careful..the nut and threads are soft..not a good thing!! Usually with soaking and tapping she will fall out...good luck

Make sure the brake screw adhusting screw is backed all the way out. If it is, and the shaft is out, the only things that can hold the drum on is the drum is stuck to the brake housing, or the brake shoes are stuck in the engaged position. That can be, even if the pedal is in the release position as you indicated. Good luck, and post back.
