My JD 1010 gas tractor is in need of repairs to the engine, radiator and brakes. Called the local JD dealer and the prices are very high. After reading the info on the 1010 tractors in the archives I know this is common. Anyone know of another supplier for 1010 parts? Thanks for any help.

Like the 2010, the 1010 has no real source of after market parts for the engine. If you want a going 1010, you'll have to get em from JD at their prices. Even the ones that you'll find being parted out won't have any rotating engine parts that are worth the trouble of using. The radiator is no longer available from JD.. I paid $275 to get a new core in my 2010 radiator (same as the 1010's one.) I have seen quite good radiators available from 2010's being parted out.. any 2010 radiator will fit in a 1010. As far as the brakes are concerned, i've been told that they were quite ineffective on the 2010 / 1010 even when new. The nature of them though probably means that used parts may still be serviceable. See if you can use a combination of new / used parts where it makes sense.

Jim.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your message. I have found most of the parts I need. Some from the dealer, some through a local engine shop. The radiator is getting a new core installed, but for more than the price you paid. Hopefully I'll get the radiator back next week, for an estimated cost of $370. I guess that's better than $800 for a new one. After the engine block gets cleaned up, we have to but the sleeves back in and put the rest back together. After reading some old messages about problems with iinstalling the sleeves, I'm going to be nervous about that. Have any experience there?
