Paul,

If you are hooked up to the outlet side of the thermo (radiator side), then the connection needs to be changed. I looked at my 630 setup w/tank heater and it is plumbed into the cast elbow coming out of the top of the block. We had to drill a hole and thread in the hose fitting. This is the upper hose from the heater.

The lower hose from the heater is plumbed into the drain plug located on the inlet casting going into the bottom of the head.

If you don't care to drill, then maybe the immersion heater or the contact heater, as mentioned in the other posts would be a good choice. Hope this helps.
Bill

I'm not sure if this will help you any, but at least you won't have to make any mods to the tractor... I've got a magnetic block heater I use on my father's Long 2610 sometimes if it gets really cold (not very often here in TX) and it seems to work fine. It's got a little handle on it, you just stick it to the block and plug it in, when you get ready to use the tractor just pull it off.

I started my 50LP last week, first time in about a month, 33 degrees and it started fine. This propane is great stuff!

Using an external tank heater? Is that upper plug above or below the thermostat?
Have good success on my 620 with a little immersion unit threaded into the water inlet casting under & at the front of the engine. About a 3/4 or 1" pipe plug thread.

Paul,

You possibly have a missing thermostat. One way to check is to start your cold tractor(if it will start) and check to see if the coolant is circulating. A missing thermostat or a stuck open one will let the fluid circ. through the radiator when cold. This possibly could explain the warm radiator and not the block. There's a place to start.

BILL IF THE TERMOSTATS WHERE MISSING OR STUCK OPEN. WOULDN'T THE ENTIRE SYSTEM BE TAKEING ALONG TIME TO HEAT UP. NOT JUST THE RADIATOR IN LESS THEN ONE HOUR. DO YOU KNOW OF ANY BLOCK CONNECTIONS ON THAT MODEL. THE TOP FITTING IS ON THE OUTLET SIDE OF THE THERMOSTATS. OR DO THINK I SHOULD JUST CALL A DEALER.

not sure what style heater you have but on my 70 I have a heater that replaces the drain in the lower radiator pipe this does a great job for me.
