I hate to ask these dumb questions but I am confused. The sediment bowl assemble on my 50 has two small lines going into the back side of it besides the gas line coming out. My question is, I am replacing the sediment bowl with another one without these line hook ups. It appears that the line pumps an oil like substance with gas in it. Can anyone tell me what these are for and can I cap them off or connect them together. I hope I am making sense and will wait for a reply. Thanks appreciate it.

What is wrong with the sediment bowl that you are replacing it? When working properly, the automatic shut off is REALLY nice, as you don't have to worry about leaving the fuel on. The rubber diaphragms inside which often fail (as it sounds they did from your description) are available from Deere, and they are easy to replace. If you don't want the unit, my AR would really like on, and I've rebuilt a few of them.....:)

I am amazed at how much I learn from this site. Clooney, I read most of your posts and you are so knowledgeable. The reason I am or was replacing the sediment bowl is because it didn't seem to work right. It was always starving for gas. Now I know why. I tried to buy the complete assemble from Deere and was told it wasn't available. Maybe all I need is the rebuild parts. Thanks all for the info and I will continue to read and get educated. I have a 53 JD 50 and a 53 JD 60 with a Loader both run fairly decent but the 60 needs a radiator and the 50 has the sediment bowl problem. Thanks again.

if you want, i can get you the part numbers and tell you exactly how to fix it....I've done about four of them, and one was doing a similar trick to what you're describing. Turns out it was just full of junk. It's amazing what can make it's way into gas tanks....I once found a chunk of wire and a foot long piece of wood in a gas tank....probly just cluttered up the valve....get back to me or e-mail me.....

John, those are oil lines from the crankcase to the oil gauge. They were on there to automaticly open & close the fuel shutoff valve.(engine oil pressure opened & closed the fuel shut off valve) There should be a Tee on the back of the oil filter unit, if there is then remove it from the filter unit, and hook it back up to the oil lines & cap the open end. If it is different than I explained just make sure an oil line goes from the crankcase to the oil gauge & doesn't have any open fittings that will leak oil. If the oil in the lines or crankcase has or had gasoline in it make sure you change the oil & filter.
