I have the chance to buy a hand start 1941 John Deere B for $1000.00. It is located about 20 miles from me. It is in great codition, owned by this family since the mid-fortys, has always been sheded and taken care of. I grew up on Allis, Case, and Ford, and currently have a 9N Ford and SC Case that I use and love, but I have always wanted an old Deere. Does this sound like a good deal, and how will an old B feel about sharing a shed with a Case and Ford?

$1000 is a good price. I paid $1200 for mine and it came from Iowa. (it now resides in AZ). My B is a 1941, handstart which came out of production on steel. It sits with my '48 8N and they don't fight very much, just for attention.

Good luck,

I just got what I thought was a steal on a 41B at $1200. It did have new radials on the rear and had electric start. We also have a G, GW, 70, 70 Std. plus 9 others, but I can see this little B is going to be the favorite. I used to think it was rediculous to own such a small 2 cyl. after being brought up on G's pulling 3-16's (JD 55ABH) in the hills of Western Iowa. Had this little B for two weeks and everyone who comes over and hears it run says "That is Sweet" It is now our "Sweet B" Buy it unless it is totally shelled out.

John,
Go for it quick! Buy yourself the best Xmas gift you've ever had.
I paid $900 for my 41 B back in July. It was clean but the steel is dented in spots. It starts every day setting out in the 10 degree weather. I'm not going to bad mouth those off-colored tractors, but I want you to write back after owning that B for one year and let us know what you think of it.

that is a steal at $1000 dollars i payed more than that for my rear spokes on my 38 JD A it is very happy to share a space with my Z28 Camaro and they are both happy there are no Farmalls or Slushstangs around , hopefully your case and ford dont get too upset when no one will want to play with them any more.going from a Ford to a John Deere is like going from a Yugo to a Cadillac

You better jump on that before someone else gets it!! I turned down a similar deal about a month ago, and I regret it. Money was kind of tight and I thought I would need it to buy food. I should've just gone on a diet.
Once you get on a REAL tractor, you'll throw rocks at the Ford and Case.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Merry Christmas

John,

This really does sound like a good deal. The $1,000 is already invested in the tractor if it has been taken care of that well. The hard work is already done. I don't think you would ever regret buying it; only NOT buying it.

I hauled a 37B out of the bushes for $600 last year and am thrilled with it. After many teardowns and reassembly of the carb and magneto it now runs like a top and will hand crank in single digit temperatures. It shares the barn with a JD 5200 and two 1965 Mustang convertibles and is right at home. I will have $1500 and many hours of work in it when it is finished. My grandbabies love it!

John:
If the ole "B" is in as good condition as you say, Then $1000.00 is a GREAT buy. I would love to get deals like that down in Georgia.. As for the shed sharing, The old Case and Ford will just have to move over because there is a new sheriff in town..!! Merry Christmas..
