I've got a 3010 that I haven't used in cold weather until this year. A friend told me that I would have problems starting it, but so far its been starting ok (haven't tried it below 0 degrees yet). Do I need to put a heater on it, and if so, what kind would be best? Also, when its hot out and I'm using the loader quite a lot, I lose hydraulic pressure every 5 or 10 minutes. If I just sit with the clutch out for a minute or so, then the pressure comes back. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

When I was home, we had a 3010 diesel with a heater in the oil pan. It was located in the front/bottom left of the pan. It screwed in like a pipe plug and had a male plug molded right into the fitting, it also had a brass cover that screwed over the plug to protect it from debris. Ours was always hard to start in the winter.

If you've got the clutch pushed in then the transmition pump isn't supplying the main hydraulic pump with fluid. All you have left is what is in the front of the tractor.

Don,

I have several tractors with heaters on them. the newer ones come with the option of block heaters and the older ones have a tank heater plumbed into the cooling system. the tank heaters are available from NAPA, Central Tractor(now Quality..),and any good automotive store. I just replaced one on my 4020. It was a 2250watt model, about $57. The 3010 could use a smaller watt model. It depends on if you want it warm in 1 hr or want to plug it in over night. I have to use them here in NNY. They save alot of stress on the starter and the engine sounds better when warm. There are instructions in the package on hookup.
Hope this helps.
Bill

even if your 3010 does start without a heater it will start easier and run smoother when you first start it when it is cold if you use a heater. I don't know exactly what type of heater you need because our 3020 and 4020 both have the heater that is built right into the block. Probably if you cantact a local dealer they can tell you what type of heater you need and how to install it. Hope this helps you...

Not sure about the heater, but the loss of Hydraulics could be caused by one of the hydraulic pumps going bad. But before you go right to the pumps, first change the hydraulic filters and make sure the oil is full..... (if you haven't already done this) Hope it helps .. Dan
