Here's what I didn't like about my 2010D: 1. When the engine started, it rattled like a bucket of bolts. Yes, I know. All diesels rattle. But not like that one. When the tranny/clutch was engaged, they rattled too, big time. When I was working with it any distance from my shop, I had an uneasy feeling that I may have to walk home...that the machine could come apart anytime. The tranny was supposed to be "Syncro-Range", and it had a control lever like the Syncro-Range on my 4020. But changing gears without coming to a complete stop was out of the question. Even then, changing gears was a chore. 2. The engine wanted to overheat in hot weather and under load, even after I reworked the radiator. 3. Everything leaked. 4. The brakes were a joke. 5. The 3-pt lift hardware was inadequate. One of the lift arms broke. 6. The clutch/brake/throttle/ hydraulic/etc. control linkage was exposed, giving the impression that its location was an engineering afterthought. 7. The operator's seat compared poorly with that of the 4020. The rear of the seat was open to an interior sissor-like suspension system that would take the fingers off an unlucky soul who might have his hands in there, trying to adjust it, when a second person sat down to try it. (Almost happened to me!) 8. The last straw was when I found water in the engine oil.

To summarize: the tractor had an overall "tinny, el-cheapo," look and feel. After being around it awhile after having been around other JD products, it was obvious to me that JD had not invested much engineering effort to the 2010D.
