I need to put a cartridge filter in a 38B that once had the brass filter. Someone sent me the part number I need to install so the filter will fit. I ordered the part, although I am not at all clear as to what it is or how it works/fits in. Thanks for any help. Allen

I'm going thru the same process myself, but haven't yet completely figured it out. You need to closely examine an unstyled B parts book to see applicable replacement parts by serial # break. There will be several other parts nessecary besides the one referenced to you earlier. My plan is to carefully study the parts book, start ordering parts, figure out which ones work and return any extras. Don't count on the parts guys being any help. If you don't have the parts book you should order one direct from the Deere 1-800 # for about $15. If you're totally confused e-mail me and I'll list the parts which I think you need.
