Yes, the 4000's and 4020's were serial numbered together, along with the Mexican 4025's. 4000 tractors can be distinquished by a "B" prefix in the serial number, and the 4025's used a "C" prefix. The production numbers for the 4000 tractors are known.

Never heard of a 4025. What were the particulars of that version?

They were made by and for people who like worms in the bottom of their hard liquor bottles. Kind of a south of the border no frills 4020 from what I've been told.

The 4025's sold in Mexico were pretty much a minimum-spec 4020, with extra fuel filters, and what appears to be a water filter as well. Unfortunately, not much is known about these tractors, and probably won't ever be, since Deere has closed its Archives to all but Deere personnel.

Anyone out there know more about 4025? Some people told me that 2cyl. were still built in South America after New Generation tractors were built here. Probably no truth to that.

CB there were 435's and 730's made in Argentina. The 435's were numbered 445's and the730's were still called 730's. some minor changes were made, like the front emblem and the power steering components. There's more info in several books, a good one being "JD tractors Worldwide" By Don Macmillan. They were made into the early 70's. This is from memory, so the details might be a little different.

Apparently the 30 series tooling from the 435 to the 730 was moved to Argentina . Two cylinders were built until 1970 or so.
