I have a generator mounting bracked which is marked with a part number JD 1031R. What Model of John Deere Tractor was this for? The part is a casting not a stamping. Thanks.

I have parts books for G's and A's but not for a B. It's not for either that I have!

I looked up a bracket in an unstyled B parts book# PC-676. the part # is "B 1031 R". The picture shows a triangular piece, probably cast. There are four or five holes on one side of it. this part # fits BR and BO models 325000-up. Ihope this helps. I happened to have the manual in my office and got curious.

Bill is right on the B1031R being a generetor bracket. I will bet he has found the correct piece too. I think all parts numbers with a JD prefix were bearings, but I'm not real sure. Tractor wheels had casting numbers with a JD prefix too. I don't have my master parts list here at the house, but I will bet if JD1031R is in it, then the part will be a bearing or wheel. I'll try to remember to look tomorrow.

Awb, I put your part number in J.D.s online parts & my own personal parts data base I came up empty handed. Is there any preface number(s) on it. You might try Shorty Dear ([email protected]) to see if he has anything on that part number. If not then as Mike says try your local J.D. dealer.

AWB, I have looked for your part number and it doesn't come up. A quick call to your John Deere dealer will solve the riddle. He will look on his Master Parts List, and that tells what machine or machines it was used on. Normally, anything with a JD prefix is what is known as a "vendor part", which means they were purchased from an outside supplier. Most castings were made in-house (not the case anymore, though). I would like to get one of these MPL's, but they tend to be expensive. I hope this isn't too confusing. Mike

AWB,

I am still a novice at this, but I have noticed when I go kicking around in tractor grave yards that in almost every case the casting number usually has the letter of the Model in it. If this is indeed true then I guess obviously, this part would be for an "R" model.

P.S. If this is a life or death matter, or money is involved, wait for word from John T or Clooney. If it turns out I am right about this, please let me know!

Gary

Gary,
You are right about the letters on the casting numbers. Only in this case, the letter R behind the number tells us which factory the part came from. R stands for Waterloo I think. The letters in front of the casting numbers is usually the tractor model, you are right on that. In the December issue of Green Magazine, Greg Stephen has a real good article on parts numbers starting on page 47. We can all learn something from Greg's article I think.

Shorty,
Yes, you are right, now that you mention it the letter of the tractor Model comes first. Can I buy that GM by the issue, at a stand, or do I have to order a subscription?

Gary,
I think you will need to subscribe to the GM. It is only $30 per year. E-mail me if you want an address to subscribe to it.
