I have seen a JD M advertised for $1200. The owner said that he had the head re-worked and the rings replaced. He says it runs good and does not smoke. Tin is good, needs paint. He says it is complete and starts well. Front tires are relatively new, rears have 50% tread. Hydraulics work good. How is the price?? Is there anything about the Ms I need to know before I look at it??
Thanks inm advance for any help...BB

Bama, you can always update the M hitch to 3-point, but if you buy a Ford, then you have to drive it, and what will the neighbours think ? The $1200 sounds like a steal if it's in good shape' and the M is a mighty fine and durable unit to have ! Just my $.02

I think it is a 1951 model, but the owner was not for sure. The folks who have the little JDs seem to love them. I'm torn between buying this little JD and a Ford 641...if you are allowed to say the F word here. Both seem to be in the same condition...fair to good but still needing restoration...thanks for the input..BB

Depends on what you want to do with the tractor. If you are looking for a user, the Ford probably has an advantage in having a 3 point. The Ms are kinda cute but the lift system is not standard though some have been converted to a 3 point, but that isn't orignal. I have an MT with single front wheel that has done lots of work for me, a great little tractor to run and economical too. My quicktach #5 and #8 mowers fit on the round bar that lifts in back but I can't use other 3 point tools on it without adapting. Again your choice of the 2 depends upon what you want to do with it. I believe the Ford probably has more horsepower
