All I have left for my restoration is to place the "John Deere " decal on each side of the hood. Does anyone know how far back from the front (or back) do you start the lettering? Thanks... That's my last dumb question for the night.

I'll pretty much confirm Ron B's reply. In an article in Green Magazine (July '96), J. R. Hobbs says that "it appears that on tractors #648000-up, the JOHN DEERE hood decal was moved from the center of the hood to a more forward location. The new location appears to be 1-1/2" to the rear of the hood/grill seam".

If you got your decals from Travis Jorde or K & K, they should be able to give you the exact location.

I just finished a '48 A, and from all the research I did (which probably wasn't enough) I came to the conclusion the decal should be centered slightly rear of center. I don't have an exact measurement for you, but will tell you where mine is placed if you want to e-mail me. Someone else may have the exact measurement for you.
