I know a service manual from Deere is a few bucks, but its cheaper than one gasket set. Let alone broken parts or having to do the job over again. There are so many clearances and items to note I personaly won't dare to start a job without the info.

Mark, the pistons & rods should have been marked before removal. If you didn't do that see if you can figure out which bores they came out of ( the pistons should really go back in the same bores they came out of). If there are "PIP" marks on the pistons they go towards the front & if there are "PIP" marks on the rods & caps they go towards the camshaft. As for the oil pump, you need a special tool (AM-450T) to install it by the book, but there is a way to do it. Note it is a long post to go through the procedure so I am going to do a search on this site & "Rummys" as I posted the procedure a while ago, if I can't find it I will E-mail you with the procedure later (after I can go inside to sit down to type).

The guy that tore this engine down is no longer with us.Nothing was marked,so I had the crank turned, rod's resized and bushed, and bored the block .090 over.I have new piston's,but the only mark's on them are".090"on the top.The only mark's on the rod's and cap's look like they were made by a cold chisel, two mark's on one and four mark's on the other.I'm sure this is for #1 and #2,but I'm not sure about front and back. The only other mark's on the rod is a little nub on the rod and the cap on the side with the bearing tang.Thank's Mark T

Mark, the "nub" on the rod & cap go towards the cam, as for the pistons I can't help you. If they aren't marked with (ft) (an arrow) or (PIP) mark then you will probably have to call the place you got them from.

Mark, a PIP is a punch or little drilled mark. I can't find the oil pump post either, it was a follow up post to a different original post & is probably not searchable by oil pump or 40 etc. I will have to take the time & E-Mail you.

clooney, thank's for the info.I looked at the original piston's and the only mark on them is the letter "A" stamped on the top edge toward the camshaft. The new piston's have "90" stamped in the same place.Do you think I should install them with the "90" toward's the cam?Thank's Mark T
