Outside of the FL election (count or not to count) hoop-la there's probably not a more hotly contested subject than Deere's Collector's Center and 1950's Store. I've missed all the posts on this could someone fill me in on what all of this is about? Thanks.

From what I understand JD is starting a collector's club. If you are not a member it will cost quite a bit to use the archives for serial #'s, etc... If you do join there is still a charge. The store is supposedly like a '50's dealership for parts and the like. Get ready for some heated discussion on this matter, and if I'm mistaken someone please correct me.

I checked JD's web site and found out more, for $50 a year you get one archives access, a magazine subscription or medallion, and a few other things. For $100 you get two archives access, medallion, magazine, and a few others. For $1000(!!) you get "red carpet" treatment in archives, the book, and more. Check out johndeere.com for more. I guess JD has to find some way into everyone's pocket.

I receive a newsletter published by John Deere. In the lastest mailing there was an interview with the new big cheese for Deere. This guy's background is BANKING. As far as money, the interview basicly proved (if there was any doubt) that Deere is in it strickly for the money. Merging and aquistitions of other companies and making the fast buck. Apparently, Deere has recognized the $$ in restoration and pulling. They just want to get their grubby hands on more money (just not my money).

I live about 20 miles from Deere headquarters and because of it our farm runs mostly CIH red. We get to see why their equipment is so high priced. They do not spend much money at all on research and development like most of the other large companies do, rather they put it in other things. They decided that they would build a new golf course for the tournament that they sponsor every year. There went several millions. Sad part is that the average person will never get to play it, green fees are over $100 on a weekday. Deere sinks so much money into the airport here that has such little traffic simply because they want the execs from around the country to say wow when they get off the plane. They spent I don't know how many million to build the pavilion and now this collectors center. Granted, the pavilion is nice, but nothing much more than the display that was in the administration building. Now I see they finally gave up their NASCAR sponsorship, maybe they are getting a little smarter. They wonder why the farm economy is so bad and farmers aren't buying as much. Can't seem to figure out that their equipment is priced too damn high. Farmers in this area are starting to take notice of this. More green is starting to leave the fields, being replaced by more and more red and blue.

I have to ask, are you really aware of the research and development budget at Deere? If so, would you care to spew some of those numbers? Yes, they did waste money on the golf course, but it also included an agreement for the next 5 years to be officially licsenced grounds equipment for the PGA and all TPC courses. That is probably more profit than the investment in the course.

What DOES really bother me is that even though the company finds ways to make more money from non Ag entities, the farmer does not see any proce drops.

I have to be picky here and point out that the cherry-red tractors are not red to the core. The glimmer of green sticking out of the C-IH is real!! Case front-end loaders (MW24C types) and CIH 4-wds are manufactured here in Fargo, at the old STEIGER plant. You got to love that Steiger green. (Case-IH bought them out).

Why do some people think it's wrong for other people to be in business to make money? I thought that was the reason to be in business.

So what is wrong with making money? i thought that is why i go to work. thought that is why i invest in the stock market and why i put money back into a savings account to make money. what i dont get is about all the fuss is about? a bounch of OLD FARTS whinning about paying 35 dollars when they bought a new truck(35,000) and trailer(4,000)to pull they beloved tractor 5 miles down the road to a tractor pull. they also have a 2,000 paint job on it and to top it off it is the wrong color!!!! i can go into the coffee shop and lesson to the same old B.S.
the fact remains J.D. is doing it so get OVER it !!!!! !!!

I would reather pay deere money ,then to a bunch of old self righthess want to be farmers living in the passed thinking they are the only ones that know anything .YES deere is going to make money off of it !! they are in the bussness of making money you 15 bricks shy of a full load dim witted people and why should they NOT you are useing there name and logos without there permission!
I beleave deere is doing this for the good of the collector.
as far as green mag. is concerned they are woried they will not have the POWER they once enjoyed and think they are behind a lot of the neg. post on here . to many post dont have a return e-mail i have to ask why and my answer is they dont want you to know who they are because they dont want you to know the TRUTH! this WILl be a good thing if all the dim wits will let it.

Go out and get your fingers in the dirt, and try to make some money with these old tractors; along with trying to enjoy them as a hobby and way of life, and you will realize you have alot to learn about what is reasonable and what is not; in relation to parts price, and general information about these old John Deere Machines. I get the feeling Deere doesn't love us good old boys as much as we love their old Machines. But then again I couldn't imagine what it would like being an IH or Oliver man. Later, Greg H. P.S. I didn't use my E-mail address, so kiss my big ole hair __ __ __.

You got to be "jerking our chain" here; that's the only explanation I can figure for your response. Anyway, there is nothing wrong with making money. But there is something wrong with making "Al Gore-type" generalizations about the people out there in the tractor hobby. Sure, there are those with expensive trucks, trailers and tractor paint jobs but then there are those out there who are "doing" with a lot less. And I bet these people are in the majority. And I don't think I or anyone else who has PURCHASED a JD product owes them a cent for the logo. They got that money when we bought. The issue here is
not about the right to make money; rather it's about taking advantage of the people who have taken care of them all of these years. I've owned an MT, and a B in the past. I now have a 70 that I completed last spring (no $2000.00 paint job-did it myself). But from here on in, my projects are going to involve re-doing the engine on my Farmall Super C, finish up my Super H and then look for a Super M. Yes, JD like everyone else has a right to make money. But I also have the right to spend my money where I want to.

Apparently, my 15 bricks fell off and hit you square in the face. Where do you get off with claiming I'm using their name without their permission. Is it my fault that the tractor came with the words JOHN DEERE decaled on the side. I better go out and take the decals off the tractor.(DAAAAA )

I have restored three Deeres from the ground up. I keep a folder of all the receipts for expenses on each tractor. Quick figuring (Sorry, slow figuring because I am a dim whit) show that I have spent enough money at my local dealership that would equal 15-20 years of red carpet treatment at the 1950's screw you over showroom.

By the way what is your story? Did the old lady kick you out because you were to smart. I bet all of the OLD FARTS at the coffee shop kicked you out because of your superior intellect and spelling.

Provided is a link for you and all other morons in the world.
