The unstyled model A's, B's and probably G's had a decal on the side of the hood that included the words "General Purpose". This confuses many people who do not know the difference between early model A, B, and G tractors and model GP tractors. The first model GP's had a non-adjustable wide front and were intended for 3-row farming. Later on the GPWT's were introduced, and the unstyled model A was an evolution of the GPWT.

In case you don't want to read all of the below stuff...No the GP was not an early B.

The GP was an early attempt to compete the Farmall. GP actually stood for "General Purpose", in other words-do all jobs on the farm. Its wide front end didn't allow this very well, so some came with a tricycle front end-the GPWT.

A while Deere gave up on the GP, and went to a new design-the A. Later a smaller tractor the B came along-based on the A, but on a smaller scale.

Differences off the top of my head-
Rear axle/Rear wheel drive-very different
Engine-different size and RPM
I don't even think any major parts were interchangeable.

Hope this helps (hope this is right!)
