I am currently working on My JD B which doesn't run, I had to take off the valve cover for the hydraulics, I noticed that unlike my 284 IH I cannot move the roker arms up and down with my hand, and I am wondering, while everything is apart if the cylinder is stuck.

Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks,

Karl

Karl, do you have power-trol or power lift, what year B? Does it have foot pedals or lever?

Karl, Sounds like power-trol, there is a spring on the r/h side (inside the rockshaft bore) that attaches to the shaft. In order to move the shaft you will probably have to put a big wrench on the square end of the rockshaft.

Karl does the flywheel move if so the pistons aren't stuck. To check the valve remove the rocker arm assembly by removing the two big nuts that retain rocker arms, once rocker arm assembly is removed take a brass hammer and tap each valve, you should see and feel them go down,if one don't move spray some WD-30 on stem and keep taping till you see it move once you get it to moving rigg up a pry bar and work the valve's up and down. Should the valve not move the head will have to be removed and valve freed up,while it is off do a valve job.If you have to remove head by all means be carefull with the exhaust manifold bolts they will twist off very easy. As clooney mentioned in a previous post cut off heads of bolts and remove exhaust manifold then use a torch to heat manifold bolts cherry red a couple of times and they should back right out. Good Luck Gman
