When I bought my 4020D it didn't come with a top link, the owner couldn't find it so I bought a Cat II top link from Country Tractor. When I got it home it wouldn't fit. It was just a little too wide to go into the top link bracket on the tractor. I measured the top link and it was 2" wide. The pin also wouldn't fit, it was 1" diameter and it was too big for the tractor bracket. I have a Cat I top link and pin but that one is too small, it is definitely not Cat I but the Cat II won't fit. Any suggestion? Are the parts from Country Tractor too big (they said Cat II on them) or has the bracket on my tractor been replaced by something other than a cat II bracket.

Phil,

I have a '69 4020. The centerlink pin is 7/8". A quality drawpin works fine. The width of the OEM centerlink end is 1 3/4". the bracket on the tractor has a depth of 1" from center of hole to the bracket(towards the front). If you modify the centerlink, be careful not to compromise it's capacity. Maybe some salvage yards might help you locate a JD link.
Hope this helps!

Phil-- Most Central Tractor Store have aftermarket top links just for 4020 tractors, that even has the little chain. Now one end has got like a universal joint and a pin, there a little pricy but they are painted John Deere Green.I made my pin to go in mine,I got a hard bolt and welded a loop on one end of bolt for my disc mower chain to hook to.
