I am assembling the parts to rebuild the generator on my John Deere LA. Can anyone out there tell me how to wire a 3 brush generator? Any help would be welcomed. Thanks

Dear AWB, it depends partly if its an internal grounded field or one that uses an external voltage regulator or light switch. If you only have a single A terminal out the generator and no F terminal, its internal grounded, but if you have both the A and F terminals, its external grounded. OK, if its external grounded EITHER via a voltage regulator or light swith, the F terminal hooks to one field winding, it goes through that winding and out to the other field winding, out that second field winding other end to one of the brushes thats 180 opposite the other brush thats connected dead to ground. Now, the third brush connects only to the A terminal on the generator. The closer the 2 brushes are placed, the higher rate of charge. If its internal grounded, its the same except, that initial starting point above is now where the first field winding end connects dead to the generator frame. Clear as MUDD huh ????? ? You can post back if you have more questions. Ol John T Engineer in Indiana
