I have a shifting fork that I accidentally broke in my 1950 B. How would I go about removing it? I have the shop manual and that has just confused me... What shoudl I do?

Thanks,

Karl

The one all the way to the front, when looking down when you take off the pedestal, the top has a U shap to it unlike the other ones, it will shift from the 1st 3 gears to the next 3.

Hope this helps!

Karl, it's been a long time since I have done just one shifter shaft, as I usually remove them all at the same time with both sides removed from the main case ( I don't like to move the adjuster screws if I don't have to). I will tell you how I would start & you can go from there. It sounds like you are working on the overdrive/underdrive shift fork so that would be the farthest one forward. The first thing to do is move the shift fork along the shaft until it gets to a point on the shaft where the pawl in the tube on the fork is raised up out of the notches on the shaft, then pin it there with a nail through the hole provided (that will hold the pawl up to allow the fork to come off the shaft). Now is where the work begins, I know you can get the shaft that holds the fork in out the R/H side but you will have to pull the clutch pulley & first reduction cover & shaft lock plate first (big job), I'm not sure if you can cheat & pull the shaft out the L/H side by pulling the flywheel out some & removing the L/H cover then removing the adjustment screw & plug (if you do you will have to readjust the shift fork shaft position when re-assembling it). If you wait maybe someone else that has done a LATE B recently can tell you for sure if it will come out the left far enough (the shaft only has to move far enough to get the fork off).
