I have a 1944 Model A John Deere and would like to know where it was manufactured and about what the retail price was. It is a hand start, rubber tires , and no power lift.

My dad bought a 46 A (disk wheels, electric start, power lift and cultivator and landing lever). Traded a 41 B with cultivator, landing lever, hand start and cast wheels, $1700 sticks in my head, but I can check with my brother if you are interested in a closer price.

the price for a A in 1952 was $2513,in 1939 a A was $1050 about as close as the book gets on prices.

Thanks. I thought the cost should have been somewhere between $1100.00 to $1300.00--guess I was close,but I did not know where it was manufactured. This my Dads old tractor and I am restoring it and am writing a history of it.

Ken, All John Deere Modle A tractors were made in Waterloo, Iowa at the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works there. This is the same place where currant 7000ten , 8000ten, and 9000 series tractors are built. The L and variants were made in Moline, and The M, MT, 40, 420, 430, 320, 330, 435, 440, 1010, 2010, 1020, 2020 etc were made in dubuque, Ia. After John Deere bought Lanz AG in Manheim, many utility tractors were made there.
However, in '44 your A was certainly made in Waterloo. JLC

Unfortunately, the old A's are NOT built at the same facility as the current 7000ten, 8000ten, and 9000 tractors are built. The earlier tractors were built at what was called the John Deere Tractor Works (now called Westfield Avenue Site). Tractor production was moved in the early 1980's to a new facility which was called the Northeast Site (now called Donald Street Site). The Westfield Avenue Site is mostly still there, although there is little being made there (a few components, offices, and storage).
