I have two 1939 John Deere B tractors serial no. 79764 and 70392 and would like to find out more information on original specifications for these tractors. Such as date of manufacture, ship to, and how tractor was originally equiped. How do I obtain this information?

Well, the short version is, you don't, at least not anymore. Deere in it's infinite wisdom, has decided to try to control the hobby by restricting serial number information, and only supplying it to those who join the "John Deere Collector's Club", with annual memberships starting at $50 per year, and up---WAY up. Non-members may have the serial number of their tractors checked for only $35 per tractor. Does this sound like greed to anyone else?
