Tractor had set at least 10 years when I got it. The governor worked for the first 4-5 hours I ran it, although even setting in shop running at 1/2 throttle it would not maintain a steady rpm gov would going up and down. Then it quit working all together, if you open throttle it runs to high rpm and won't shut down. It is not carb troubles. I pulled the cover on gov and tapped the 2 wieghts w/ a screwdriver and they fell right down. I do not believe they were hung out plus they looked very clean. Where do I look now? Mike (45 GM) ps tractor runs 100%

Mike I don't know what you want to do or want to spend to fix the problem. As I put together my 49 G, I spent the extra money to have my govenor completely rebuild with all new bearings, shims, etc... My fan shaft housing was broken out by the fan. The only one I could find did not have the second bolt hole for the factory generator bracket. It did not have the bracket when I bought it, just makes it more difficult if I ever wanted to take back to orginial condition.

A gear was broken during the process, so determine if it is necessary.

Mike the best thing to do is pull govenor out and insspect the pins and weights if pins and weights are worn replace ,there is a slide that slides up and down the shaft which could have gum between shaft and sleeve clean and polish shaft, also a good time to inspect bearings could have one bad,now when you go to put it back in tractor remove mag. or distributor then install govoner assembly be sure the little fingers on weights are on the back side of thrust or govenor will not work you will not have any control. hope this helps gman (garland
