Finally got the axel stub out of the axle tube on my 40U..... what a chore. The right side stub came out no problem but the left side would not budge under any circumstances. I took the axle tube off the tractor, and took it to an oilfield shop. We stuck it in a HUGE vise, heated the entire tube up cherry red with a rosebud, chained a forklift to the stub... still wouldn't move. We took a piece of flat iron 1-1/2" x 1/2" x 2' and shoved it in the open end of the tube under the pilot shaft up against the stub. Beat on while tuggin' with the forklift while keeping the whole thing red hot. IT CAME OUT. Be careful if you try this NOT to "egg" the tube. Lots of email on this one, thus the lengthy response.

Great job! I'm gonna look for an oil field here in Maine, so my AW front can get unstuck too! That's about all that hasn't been tried. Maybe it'll be easier to just make the trailer wider. Hmmm, that's an idea!!

Good luck, Burl. I don't know what an AW axle looks like but feel free to call me and I'll tell you everything we tried on the 40U.
