I got that pesky differential in! (Manuals are WRONG)

Today I spent another hour or two on my 70D differential that wouldn't go in (or come out in one piece). I gave up trying the way all the manuals and pictures showed. When I put the RIGHT end in first, underneath the right-hand hole in the main case, and incredibly the left end just slid in with a "clunk" and that was it!

All the manuals show it with the right end down and coming out first. This is NOT the case, at least on the 70D, so anyone else who has this unenviable task at least be warned, you don't have to spend hours trying to put it in backwards. Kind of like putting your underwear on after your trousers. Getting the axle housing reattached to the main case was a breeze after this job.

Incidentally, I did have the left hand bearing off for extra clearance. It was easy to reinstall - when heated to about 200 degrees it just tapped on with a 2 lb hammer and an appropriate arbor that fits the inner race.
