My 40 has leaks, I just recieved my IT manual, First thing it says is to check for internal leaks before disassembly. My external leaks are pretty bad. It was empty when I bought it and found the leak when I filled it. Just siting there its almost empty again. Should I go ahead and do the lift test for internal leaks or just order everything and tear it apart. It will be my first Hydralic repair. All suggestions welcome. Bob

Bob, the first thing you should do it repair the external leaks & get the system working. Then you can tell if there is pump noise (quite possible if the pump has been operated without oil) or any other problems that have to be dealt with before tear down. It wouldn't hurt to check pump pressure & relief valve blow off pressure before disassembly so if it has to be shimmed you can do it while the system is apart.
