I've bought my first JD, a '51 B. Just got in into the garage this past Sunday. I need to get manuals to know how things are to come apart. What are the best manuals to work with and where can I get them? Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill

Congratulations, I too am attempting to restore my first JD - 1951 BN. One of the first things I did was get the 3 manuals, parts, service, and operators. Although mine is still a long way from running, the manuals are an invaluable source of maintenance/repair information. Enjoy and good luck!

Congradulations. I just finished a 50B project. I found that the I&T manual really wasn't worth much. I was lucky and got an operators manual and parts manual with the tractor. These manuals along with the service manual and powertrol manual are really necessary if you get very deep in the project. I completely went thru my engine and transmission. Love the tractor. What I learned to plow with as a kid.

Look at this web site. It's all about B's....also has an online parts manual, I think.

I have a parts book for my 430 and also for most of the implements I use often. Really helps to know how things go back together and often to tell what is missing or broke. Several years ago I bought a CD from John Deere that has parts books for all the old 2 cylinders. Was around $50 I think but works good. If I have a problem with something I look it up and print of the page from the CD. I assume it is still available from phone number given by other post. God luck, is a fun hobby

You can either order manuals through your Deere dealer or order direct from the printer. The toll-free number is 1-800-522-7448.

You will need to know the serial number of your tractor when you call. You should be able to get an operator's manual, service manual, and parts manual.

L. C. is correct on the phone number. The manuals you should have are Operator's Manual - OMR2006; Shop Manual - SM2004(01SEP48); Parts Catalog - PC330(01MAR60).

Other shop manuals available if you find you need them later are: SM2029(01SEP72) for the electrical system and SM2011(01NOV55) for the hydraulic system.

When I restored my '41 B, I first bought the I & T Shop Manual, but I found it to be written for the more technically advanced person, which I sure ain't.

Good luck,

Stan

Good deal Bill.I bought an IT manual from the local Farm Store(Rural King)for about 13.00 dollars.I won't say that the IT manual is the best but it will head you in the right direction.I had to have some part numbers and the local JD dealer kindly looked them up for me and printed them off. That was a great help.Good luck.

Welcome to the world of two cylinders. You can get manuals from several places. JD dealers can still order them. I think they can be ordered from this website too. I'm working on my first project too. I've got a 39 H. I hope you enjoy your B.
