I have a JD 60. I cannot get the hubs loose on the axles. I have tried everything but they won't budge. I have got a guy who has bought the tractor and is awaiting delivery. The tires have the slotted axle with the wedge screw but I can't get the wheel to move with those either. I have thought about a gear puller but I am afraid I will crack the cast wheels. Any ideas?

WHOA now slow down,

Impact wrenches and heat can't beat patience!
Patience won't crack your cast iron.
I loosened the 3 inside and the three outside, put some pressure on the jack screws, douse liberally with favorite lube, and gently beat on the jack screws with hammer (and I don't mean a big swing). A few taps and more jack screw pressure a few taps and more pressure. Time will allow the penetrating juice to flow with the taps.
It helps to use the wheel itself for leverage.
It took about 2 hours per wheel for mine but they are intact.

I agree! I had to move the wheels of my JDH all the way in to get it on my trailer when I bought it. I managed to get one hub loose in about an hour, but ended up breaking the other by beating on it with too much force.

Central Tractor has used hubs cheap, if all else fails (I know).

To loosen the wedges put some presure on the jacking screws and hit the end of axle with a sledge hammer 5 good blows. put more presure on the jacking screws and repeat till wedges come loose this will work!

I just had to do this a few months back on my JD 50. We ended up taking the collars off, taking the wheel off and using a lot of heat, a break-over with a big cheater (then finally an impact wrench) and about half a can of WD-40.

If you take the wheels completely off, be careful - those suckers are heavy!

Taz, have you been able to get the collars to come loose with the 2 jack screws? If the collars are loose & it won't move you probably need heat & penetrating oil & patience. If the collars won't come loose tighten the jack screws then with engine running snap the clutch (don't drive it just snap the clutch in then back out) in 1st & reverse then tighten the jack screws then snap the clutch again. If the pinions won't turn, the wheels won't move so you might have to free them up or drive the shaft out of the pinion (remove the cork on the opposite side than the pinion bolt head then put penetrating oil in the hole, then drive on them with a punch or drift, if they come loose good , if they don't you might need heat)

Taz,I wished there was a easy way to do it but there is none. What I did on my 70 with the same type axles, was take the inner bolts loose and loosen the three outer bolts and there are two bolts that look different on the outside of the hub. What you have to do is to screw them in and this breaks the wedges loose.I had to take the wedges all the way out of mine and take the whole wheel off because the adjuster screw was stuck.I ended up taking a torch and a 3/4 drive Ingersoll Rand impact to loosen the adjuster screws.Maybe your adjuster screws are not stuck(I hope).Good luck and keep us posted.BigJ(TN).
