clooney hello its a 1940 h
I was told in some of the other John Deere's
that there were different gears so when I went to my local dealer had them look up
the parts in their book they did show separate part numbers only for some reason John Deere dealers have trouble ordering things for the h for some reason things are becoming obsolete
I was just hoping they did offer a different gearing
any suggestions ?

Gary, why do you want different gearing? The H is not a very useful tractor for farming or yard work so Deere doesn't stock many big ticket items for it. You can call "Charles B. Lindstrom" 816-232-5868 as the H is his main specialty. If you need any info or parts he will have them.

Gary, I don't think there ever was a change in ratios, the 39 used a different clutch pulley & gear (sn-H1000-H9999), the 40 & up used a different pulley, clutch & gear. There was a replacment reduction gear offered but it is a replacment for the H1000 & up so the ratio wasn't changed. There are MANY/MANY changes on the H after SN/H9999 almost a different tractor. What year H are you working on?
