Bent a shaft on my 48 G, the brake drum bolts on it, 16" long threded on one end and a gear wich must mesh w/ axle on the other. Would an A have the same piece that would interchange? Thanks Mike

Mike, I've got a CD with parts books for all the 2 cylinders. The shaft on the G is part number AF395R, may have changed. "A" brake shaft is a different number from 477000 up is a AA1374, seems to be same one on lower number A's also until real low numbes they use a AA1379. Here again parts might sub to different numbers but it looks like the G has the gear on the shaft and on the A it is a separate part.

Good Question.I had the brakes off my 70 and off my 50 A and they looked just alike.Have your local John Deere Dealer look up the shaft for the G and see if the A had the same pn#.Good luck(Jack)TN.
