After collecting Ertl precision tractors for years and finding that they are more and more expensive, I decided to buy a real tractor insted of a $400 toy. I located the B on Machinefinder.com and went to Bethany MO to pick it up. The tractor ran long enough tp get on the truck and when I got it home it would not even pull start. Come to find out the entire block was filled with water!!!!! (I think the old girl was telling me something) It took my uncle and I a week of cleaning and draining to get it running. We cleaned every mud dauber nest, grease chunk, oil , old paint, and dirt off the old girl and it turned out like this (see link on page, click on pics to see bigger version) Thanks to my uncle jim, the ytmag jd guys, walts tractor, jorde's decals, and everyone else who helped w/ this project

Nice Job! Give us some more info. What paint and primer did you use? Did you do the paint yourself? Do you have any pictures of the inprocess work?

I used Tisco paint and primer. I painted it myself in the garage after making a plastic paint-booth. I haven't processed the in the middle pics as of yet.

besides sanding scraping and grinding we did not remove anything but the front wheels and other smaller unpainted parts.

Mechanically I replaced a cracked mag case, throttle rod and spring, oil filter, oil, and new battery. I also replaced the front wheels and the bottom part of the seat. I was looking for a good running tractor that would not need a ton of mechanical work. It has worked out very well for me. Besides a cold start valve that vibrates open and drips one or two drops of oil there is no leaks of any kind. I'm looking for an inexpensive ($400) 1936- 1943 B that I can tear down completly to restore from the ground up. I'm officially addicted to these things .

NICE JOB! I have a dead ringer for that tractor (before) in the barn now - except it has a square axle - 1949 serial number. I don't want to know how many hours of work you have in it. Next time take the photos mid-day - lighting is much better!
