In adjusting out the front axle for another 4" of width, I have run into a real roadblock. The right side axle was easy to slide out of the axle tube, once the retainers were removed. The left side won't budge. Penetrating oil, heat and two hydraulic jacks can't move it. I believe the thing is rusted in place. I am thinking... remove the right side axle and spindle, build a drift that has an OD similar to the axle tube ID, and try to drive it out from the other side. Any ideas how to tackle this problem?

(Part one of two)Prune Picker, I hope you are an even tempered person as I have done a couple of those stuck 40 front axles & have learned a whole new vocabulary. You started on it correctly with penetrating oil, heat & jacks. When all else fails there is always explosives (the thought crossed my mind a few times). I don't think the big drift will work because there is a pivot pin tube running through the center of the axle tube (at least I think it goes all the way through) But that method works good on the bigger tractor axles. The last 40 I moved the axle on I used heat, oil, & had the side of the center that was stuck on blocks, then I found 2 hardened dowel rods (drill rod I think) that just fit in the holes that weren't inside the center tube then I put 2-4' pipes over the dowels & had a friend come over & we each grabbed a pipe & worked the outer knee in a circular motion a little at first then more & more until it would turn completely around then we moved it in a circular motion while pulling outwards on it, when it started to move it came right out.

(part two of two) for some reason I had to post in two parts.....On the first one I did I pulled the clamps off & put a 1/2" bolt in the hole then put tape around the tube to hold the bolt in then took the tractor out & ran the front wheel into a stump then backed it against a row of cement blocks until it came loose (scared the he*l out of me when it came loose) that is why I did the second one differently. Good luck & when you get it loose post the procedure you ended up using, it will make good reading
