The 51' A we bought has a DLTX 16 carb on it,problem is the choke is off when the rod is pulled out and on when in! Is this the right carb for this year and model of tractor. If not what did it come off of? Any help would be welcome.

Thanks for your help! Being off a D would explain why it does'nt need much choke at all when cold,it's already rich.

Dale, the DLTX-16 carb is from a J.D."D", and on the D the carb mounts backwards to the way it mounts on an A,B,H,G etc. so the choke is set up to work with the carb inlet facing the rear of the tractor. That carb is for a 501 CID engine & is probably pretty big for an A.

Not saying this is the problem...but reminds me of a '50 B that did the same thing to a certain degree. The round butterfly for the choke had been bent backwards into a "c" shape from an obvious backfire through the carb. Was bent just enough to cause that symtom. Info only. :-)

Your '51 "A" should have a DLTX71 Carb., if it is a straight gasoline burner. If it happens to be an all-fuel model, use a DLTX72.
