I have a DLTX 10 on my 36 JD-B that I can not slow the idle. I have cleaned it, cleaned out the air passages and it idles good, runs good BUT idles to fast. The throttle lever is against the spring and pin. If I close down the choke it will slow down or if I lean-out the idle adjustment it slows but then runs rough. Could it be that the throttle plate is not closing off well enough or ??? Thanks for any suggestions.

Agree with John T & Clooney. Thought I'd add one thing I do whenever I rebuild one of these carbs. I press my throttle shaft bushings in until the outer ends of the bushings are just flush with the bore. They're too far in to install the throttle plate this way but I cut them away until they're tangent to the bore of the carb and throttle plate. When finished you can only see by the change in color where the carb body ends and the throttle shaft bushings start. Got the idea when some guy asked me why his A did the same as your B. I found that somebody had pressed a "short" top bushing in just until the top was flush with the top of the carb. LOTS of air bypassed the throttle plate this way. Just a couple coppers added to some good advice from the other guys.

I been through some of the same with my 38 B, althoug it did idle slow as it should, it just ran a tad rich. As clooney man said the throttle plate needs to fit close to the bore and I adjust mine by loosening the 2 mounting screws and closing and centering it then tighten the screws. First, remove it and smooth file the edges for any burrs. I push my shaft bushings close to the bore, but learned from Robert Beaver they need to be down as far as absolutely possible without protruding into the bore, again like cloney was talking about. If the bushings are worn, however, that causes a vacuum leak past the shaft causing a too lean idle, which you try and overcompensate by running the idle jet too rich, which messes up a good slow smooth idle. Do you have the screw which hits that idle post spring backed off??? If she idles too fast and the throttle appears all the way back closed on top, it must be a leaky uneven fitting throttle plate, which adjusting or a new one will cure, so long as the bushings are okay. Larry, the most likly cause is a worn throttle plate, followed by the throttle shaft bushings not being pushed in flush with the inside of the throttle bore & a worn throttle shaft & throttle shaft bushings or all of the above. Look at the bottom of the throttle plate for wear. Then with the throttle plate closed hold the carb up to a light & look for light around the plate. If you are running advanced ignition timing that could make it idle faster also.
