Can anyone tell me the general rough prices that a JD 40 would bring in good shape with good rubber and good paint but motor is locked up. I am a ford man but would like to get a JD and have no idea of the price range. The people are asking $1800. This seems about $500 high to me. Any help appreciated.

8ntn,
you are looking at a very desireable model and 40's, 420's,and 430's usually bring top dollar. their prices also vary by region and model. toddt in tenn. had a solid 430 adv. for $3500. in central ohio it would bring considerable more. ebay had (2) 420 tricycles that ran, and couldn't get $2000 for them. tricycles, in these models, are less desireable. compare it to an 8N. what would you give for an 8N in the same condition? although the JD 40, will historically, be more desirable and bring a few dollars more in the end.

I am not saying it is a good price or not, in fact I am not sure, but when I was looking for my tractor I was looking at a couple of 40s and it seems that their prices were to me a bit high as seen in your post. Maybe that is the standard price I guess?

I am not sure about the 40, but in my opinion you ought to pay that amount for a running tractor. Iv'e seen B's in the condition you describe go for $500 to $600.
