I just bought my own john deere A, but I can't find the year of it... my serial number doesn't match any of the one's here ( 684604 ) .... The tractor has a rollomatic front end, lights, hydrolics, a distributor (not magnito) a 12 V system, battery under the seat, and electric start... hope this helps, thanks! Adam

With the information you provided, it seems to be a 1951 Model. Check the Serial Numbers section along the left margin, under "A Styled".

under " A Styled " the number under 1951 is 667390 , my number is 684604 ...? What traits make my tractor a 51?

OK. The starting serial (first tractor)for 1951 was 667390. The following tractors would be 667,391 , 667,392, and so on. The first tractor on the 1952 assembly line was 689,880. Your Model A, (684,604) comes between those starting serials, so it is classified as a 1951 model. If all the serial #s are used in 1951, then your tractor is the 17,214th tractor out of 22,490 made. This may not be the case, but it is theoretical.

For my Model B, the serial # is 62,2XX, which makes it a 1939 model by the same reasoning. The 1939's start with serial # 60,000. Hope this helps. Having these serial tables are really a useful tool.
