Just received October's issue of Green Magazine. An auction was held in Moline, IL and tractors sold for a premium dollar. A 630H for $141,000.....this hobby is quickly getting out of my pay-grade.

Well it's like any other thing that the masses call a hobby-some folks with a lot of money make it a business or investment and "cash in". hey, I'll be the first to admit that It's nice for someone with the fire in his or her soul to do some leg work to make parts & services available to me while I sit and wait. It's a little annoying but I realize I'll never have the money for the rarities and envy is so unlike me...

A friend of mine worked for the Sotherbys
auction house in New York. There's people
out there that spend that much on a weekend
vacation.One painting brought 22 million.

Hey,
I think what it ammounts to is that some people have more money than they know what to do with. It is however their own business, But I FIND IT SUPER STUPID WHEN YOU PAY MORE THAN SOME FOLKS PAY FOR A HOUSE FOR A 40+ YEAR OLD TRACTOR!!!! The problem is now that they jack the prices up for the rest of us who just want a nice colection of JD's. I am only 18yrs old so it especially makes it hard for me to buy a nice tractor when things like this happen. Just my $.02,

If you ever own a rare tractor, you will be happy to see the price go up! Not only is tractor collecting a great hobby, it is also a great investment. I do not think this auction has any effect on a row crop 1946 J.D.(common tractor) . Leger- Louisiana

I don't know about that. The auctioneer prob'ly got a healthy commission on that sale. The buyer is the only fool I can see in this. You know what they say about a fool and his money.

That 630 high crop sold for that much because there was only 12 made....I think. The QCTIMES asked him why he sold it (this was after the 630 was sold)and he told them that he had another back in California!!!!! I have seen other low # production models with values like that but not as much. Thank goodness the rest of the models that were common have not gotten that expensive.

Ahh. So the old economics supply and demand curves still hold true. So it is not stupidity but rather very low supply and relatively high demand. I don't think we have much to worry about with roughly 600,000+ As and Bs floating around out there.
