Im trying to help my neighbor who has a 2350 JD that the loader has a bad jerk while raising. One former JD mechanic told him that there are hydraulic lines in the trans. that will crack, causing the problem. He pulled the trans. cover off and we see no hydraulic lines inside the trans. Any suggestions? (Ser. #157466, engine type#4239DL, Series 587994CD, Product I.D.#L02350R498825).
Thanks Dan

I have a 2350 now and have the same problem. The problem really manifest itself when hot. Have found that if I tighten the rate of drop screw completely down the problem is corrected be the three point wont drop untill you back off when done with the loader. I am sure that my problem is in the three point system some where but my JD dealer can't find it they say it is working fine. Just try it nothing to loose, let me know if it corrects and what you finally find and I will fix mine also. Joel...

The first thing to do with any hydraulic problem
is change the filter.Use a JD,not an after market. The loader will starve for oil first.

Dan, Well here goes another old John Deere Mechanics advice!! The late 40 and 50 series utility tractors did not have the long stringy like pipes on the PTO brake, PTO clutch and Hi/Lo that failed like the early model 40, 30 and 20 series had, rather it uses short tubes that were very trouble free. The 50 series still does have the transmission pump in this same area and there is suction and pressure pipes to and from the pump that you can not rule out. If one of them is at fault the shifting of the Hi/Lo or turning the PTO ON and OFF will not reveal the problem like suggested earlier. If the filter and suction screen has been serviced. The next thing to check is the filter relief valve that it isn't stuck open (not likely) but easy to check. If it is OK I would suspect that one of the charge pipes between the transmission pump outlet and the shift cover has a hole in it caused by vibration. To service these the tractor will have to be split. To split the tractor the shift cover will have to be removed anyway and by removing it, it will expose the ends of these pipes. The pipes should be setting full of oil when the shift cover is lifted from them, if they are not full fill them with hydraulic oil and if one of them seeps away fairly fast you defiantly have found a source of a leak, Get out the splitting equipment!! This procedure may or may not reveal the actual leak depending on how big the leak is, but if it shows signs it is big enough to cause the problems you have. I have seen this on sevral of the 50 series over the years. Another crude test is hold the stop out so the engine will not start and crank the engine over to determine which one is supplying the top cover, once determined hold you thumb over it and continue to crank the tractor, if you can hold the output of the pump back with your thumb over the pipe at engine cranking speed either there is a leak (most likely) or the pump is shot (least likely) Good Luck, Dave Wickman

This problem that Dave is talking about, is a something that just happens to the this smaller tractors. Dave and I have both seen these problem many times. I have one of these tractors, and had to go into it also, for the same problem, found the lines (tubes) cracked.. Good luck
