I have a 440ID wheel tractor and I've heard of back hoes on them. I would like to have one and if anyone knows where i could get one I would appreciate it.

Steve, good to see the "post". Seems we are the out-cast bunch when it comes to the Indy lines. I too have a 440I gas with a mod 71 loader. I just got it in the spring of this year from my uncle and love it. I think "ours" were one of the last 2 lungers made. I use it now for moveing fire wood, moving gravel and even moving some small stumps (they were pulled with a CASE track hoe)no doubt snow this winter too I just got done replacing the head, valves, springs, gasket, power steering lines, and other stuff (even painted the block) I have the original manuals and the IT "tear down" book so let me know if you need any tech info.

I think the 440ID was a diesel version of the 440I.

However, I am trying to make a website about the industrial line of John Deere tractors, and any information about the 440I would be useful to me. Or any other industrial two-clyinder.

Here's my website http://www.geocities.com/weirddeere/WeirdDeereHome.html

Or try the link below

Thanks,
Brandon

What is a 440ID? Mine has a loader and backhoe. I dropped off the hoe and see that there is no PTO but there is a lever by the gearshift. What is that lever for? Can I install a PTO and a three point on it? Also the brakes do not work. I took off the cover and the disks are about 1/2 inch. They really dont look worn out. Thanks for responding

440I is mechanically very similar to a late 420W or 430W ag tractor, a 440ID is very similar to a 435 ag tractor - if you are looking for a three point and/or pto I would suggest finding a 420/430/435 for parts as these tractors are more plentiful than the 440I. I owned a 440I with a JD 71 loader and a JD 50 backhoe. I understand that approx. 2500 440Is & IDs were built about 1700 Is and 800 IDs

A 440I has a gae engine and a 440ID has a diesel engine. To put a PTO on your tractor you will need to find a stub shaft and bolt it on the back where the cover is now.Email me if you need more info, Rob [email protected]
