I have recently acquired a John Deere B (1950) for my collection. The engine is stuck, and there is a problem with the carb. I would like to put her through a full restoration but I am not sure if I should do it when I rip into her to unstuck the engine and work on the carb or to wait awhile. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

Karl

Clooney's advice is "on the money." It's the only way to do it.

Karl, when you take it apart clean the removed parts & prime as you re-assemble it. After you get it running you can check for other problems & oil leaks. I you start the restoration without getting it running & tested you will not be happy when you have to take things apart to repair them. The only way you can be sure everything is OK & not leaking is to use it for a while before restoration.

Clooney, I am in a similar siutuation in that I already have my '35 B apart and am doing the cleaning while block work is being completed. My question is should I go ahead ahead and paint the frame under the block before I put the block back in? Also, have the brakes off and the same would seem a smart move. Is this correct?
