Brand new to tractors and looking at getting my first one. Present use would be for mowing 3 acres but we would like to move up to 10-15 acres. I'm looking at a '52 model B restored for $1,500 (new tires, paint) and a '53 model 50 looks sharp for $2,250. Both are very clean but not restored to show quality. Any help appreciated. Will either handle a baler? Thanks

I mow with my 50 and do other assorted chores on our 20 acres. I cannot say enough about power steering, live PTO, and live Hyd. The 50 has all the charm of an antique with the usefulness of a modern compact tractor that costs 10 times as much. Some early 50s did not have power steering or live PTO so be sure to check. If you contact GREEN Magazine they can send you a reprint of an article on the 50 that details all you could ever want to know about it.

50 burns less fuel per horse power and less inclined to foul plugs all other things equal thanks to the duplex carburation.

If I was you, I'd take the 50. Slightly more horsepower, available live pto, standard live hydrauilics (Power-Trol) and available power steering.

If the 50 has LIVE PTO it is a feature you will find desirable. The PTO Shaft will off center if the tractor has Live PTO and there will be a seperate hand clutch on the right side of the seat. The 50 will have live hydraulics and I'm not sure of the B.
Pulling a square baler is easiest with the Live PTO unless the baler has a motor. Both these tractors will be a challenge to a round baler.
