Thank you to everyone who provided advice on timing my JD A. It's starting really well now. Of course, now that it's running good, it's time to at least be thinking about preparing for winter in Western NY. I want to do some tin work, repair some leaks, etc. over the winter so I don't plan to run the tractor. I've read the Operator's Manual about things to do for winter storage. My question is - How do I prevent rust from occurring inside the empty gas tank? It already had some when I got the tractor. I'm afraid that when I drain it out, and leave it to stand in my unheated storage barn that it will get worse. Any suggestions for minimizing the chances of rust occuring in the empty gas tank over the winter? Thank you for any advice.

Don't worry too much about rust in the tank. I have had several tanks plastic coated on the inside and it worked great. No more rust problems at all. Cost was around $50 at the local radiator shop. Fuel stabilizer is the best money you can spend, at least here in Michigan. Good luck, Paul

Drain the main tank, remove the sediment bowl, drain the carb and run engine until it quits.

How about leaving the tank full and putting fuel stablelizer in it? I don't know if that would work in your area. It works here in Tenn.
