My A's governor will only allow the tractor to run at approximately half throttle. When I got the tractor, it only had 1 governor weight intact. I put the second weight in, and now she won't open up. How do I adjust it?

A weak or cracked governor spring will cause this same problem. With the rods disconnected, the spring should contact the point on the governor lever. Check and/or replace the spring, adjust the governor to throttle rod as the other post says & then adjust the stop bolts as needed to set the proper speeds. Unless the internal parts are worn so badly (or bent) that the weights are in the wrong position (too far away from the shaft), it should work just fine.

With the throttle in the Wide Open (WO) position, and the carb butterfly in the WO position, you should have to pull the throttle actuator rod (the rod from the gov. arm to the carb) 1/2 the hole the rod runs in to the carb for proper tension and adjustment. Anything else and it will not act right. All you adjust is the length of the throttle rod. Hope this is not confusing....Good luck, Doug in Tx
