My parts manual calls it a steering gear arm. I want to replace the worn bushing to tighten up the steering. I've removed the castle nut and tapped on the arm a little but it is not dropping off. It is a spline shaft I can see, but is it also a compression fit? Should I use a puller to get it off? Thanks

Ray, either use a gear puller or remove the nut on the bottom then remove the 4 bolts that hold the steering gear on then place a bottle jack under the shaft & jack the tractor up to press out the splined shaft. I had my D almost off the ground & had to jump up & down on the platform to get mine loose.

Put a puller on it and tighten it up good then give the puller a few good raps with a three pound hammer and it should pop off. The pressure from the puller and vibration from the hammer should get it off
