I have a 38 model G...engine is stuck..we have poured WD-40..kerosene,turpentine,transmission fluid, diesel, etc..got bolts in the flywheel and bump it daily,,,,even tied a "come-a-long" to it to put tension on it...no luck...what next?
Also I have original spoke wheels front and back..due to time they have rusted badly on about a fourth of the outside rim on the back two..the spokes and center and ridges are strong...are they rebuildable and how...front wheels are rough on the rims as well...need an expert here as I am told that the spoke wheels are valuable

Ray, one thing I have tried with some success is after you get the block and pistons out and have them setting up, put some brake fluid on top of the pistons (an inch or two) and take a torch and set fire to the fluid. Yes, it will burn, but it takes a while to get it going. Once going it will make a fair amount of heat with a blue flame. This heat will warm the block, but because of the fluid on the piston it will stay cool. Many times after this you can get them to move. Another time I installed a head on a block (with the block out of the tractor and using an old gasket) and made an air hose adaptor out of an old spark plug. I put Kroil in the cylinders and pressurized the cylinders at about 100-125 lbs. with a regulator. This helped force the penetrating oil down the sides of the pistons. If the pistons are really rusty a weak solution of lye with water will dissolve a lot of rust. DO NOT use this on aluminum pistons, however, as the lye will eat them up. This is more a "last resort" type of thing. Hope this helps. Mike

The important thing with stuck pistons is that no serious damage to the engine will be done until you try to unstick it. Remove everything you can before starting on this job, don't think it's any more work. This also will prevent damage to the head, push rods, rocker arms, crank and connecting rods. These items aren't near as cheap as a few gaskets and a little time. You will probably have to replace the rings and certainly clean up the pistons unless you want a real oil burner when you are done. With the block off the tractor place it head end up on suitable supports. clean the cylinder as best you can above and below both pistons. I put a piece of steel about 1" thick on top of the pistons so that all pressure on them is at the O.D. where the wall of the piston can support the head of it. Try soaking with your favorite brew of penetrating oil. I have heard of setting fire to the penetrant to heat things a little also which would help it work better. Then go with the wood block on top of your steel plate and a sledge, hydraulic jack, hydraulic press or whatever. Not only do you have less chance of breaking a piston or block this way, but you have completely taken all of the other parts out of harms way. A litttle caution and patience pays big dividends. Just my opinion, Paul

I have found two options for stuck pistons. I have had success with both. #1 Get a long enough 2x4 that you can rest one end on the piston head and the other end sticking out past the steering bolster (no radiator of course). Introduce the one end to Mr. Sledgehammer.
#2 Shorting the broken 2x4 so that you can get a hydraulic jack (telescoping) between the front support and the 2x4. PUMP SLOWLY A LITTLE EACH DAY

I owuld try removing the whole block by taking the rod caps off if possible, pull the whole unit out. You then can apply even pressure and not bend a rod.

If you remove the block and pistons together then a sledgehammer and a block of wood works great. You will probably need a good piece of hardwood. Just set the cylinder block up so you can put the block of wood on the piston then hit it real hard a whole lot of times and the pistons should come out. Make sure to have the cylinder block sitting on wood or you might crack it.

Try KROHL penetrating oil. It may be a little hard to locate but is the best I have found.
