I have a 47 GW that I would like to pull. It's been used as a farm tractor for the last 25 years (just was replaced with a 4020) with no special work done to it. I don't think I can get it under the 6,000# class break unless I change to a narrow front (which I don't want to do). Don't see any GW's pulling here (west coast). Appreciate any ideas to make it competitive but still usable for mowing, etc.

There are companies in Green Mag who make a custom head, intake and carb. Then you can set the origionals aside for storage. A reground cam and high compression aluminium pistons. Don't try it without rebalancing the bottom end. Set the restrictive oil bath air cleaner on the shelf as well. A K&N or Amsoil low restrictition air filter is the cheapest HP per dollar modification. With the fast 1st gear and tall 38' tires a stock G can be stalled on a sticky track even in the light classes. 55 belt HP is the minimum with 15.5x38 tires in the 6500 lb class.

Duben what is the serial# of your tractor, there were only a few GW's made between 23,000 and 26,000 which is I think your tractor is in this range, and they are rather collectible so be careful of modifications,I would retain the cast Iron pistons and make a smooth running farm and show tractor. Drop us an email on the serial #. Gman

I went to a stone boat pull last night w/ my G. There were 60 + tractors there. Myself and a JD D were the only gas tractors left running when got to 9000# of block. We did beat a couple of 720 D's. But for the most part once the 720D's , the 820D's and one 830D came out we were all done. I pull Friday for the first time on a transfer sled so I will post how I do . Mike

Out here we use weight transfer machines and are placed by 1000# classes (6,000 to 7,000 for example). I also own a 730 Diesel that I pull but the G is no match for the 730. The G weighs 6,400# and my 730 weighs 8,800# with fenders, 3 point and 500# of front weights. Good luck on your next pull!
