3010 run-on and 3rd gear problem

I have a 62' 3010 gas that runs-on after the key is turned off. Is this likely a timing problem or perhaps a carbureator out of adjustment? It's minor and doesn't happen all the time. Should I just leave it alone?

Also, I'm having trouble with 3rd gear in that the engine must be idling, the pto must be off and the tractor has to be stopped for 3rd to engage. Otherwise when I take my foot off the clutch it grinds. Is this indicative of something seriously wrong or is there an adjustment that will solve it? All of the other gears opperate fine.

Thanks in advance for your consideration and help.

Dachew, To help your run on problem, set the idle speed a little slower and let the engine idle a little bit before shutting it off this will help. The other thing you can do is add the anti deisel solenoid to the carburator like the 3020's have but that will get into your pocket. Solenoid is over a hundred bucks. The problem with your shifting, check to see if the problem also exsist in 5th, 7th and 8th. If it does the shifter and high side sycronizer is worn out which has caused the high side drum to wear resulting with your problem. Nothing a good sycronizer job won't fix. Good Luck!! Dave W.

I've tried all the other gears and they seem fine. I'm wondering if it could be synchronizer related anyway. It won't engage unless the engine is running at low throttle. What is involved in repairing a synchronizer?

Thanks for the advice on the run-on problem. I don't think it's worth a hundred dollar solenoid either. Maybe some day. For now I'll adjust the idle speed down a little as you suggest.

Dave, thanks for the advise, I got a 3010 with ocassional run on too. I'll try the idle adjustment.
