What oil would give the best results. Have gotten different answers from jd-dealers to tractor supply/repair shops. So far tried:

repair shop: SAE30 motor oil-Sluggish JD-dealer: SAE10w30 motor oil-Works great 20min till warms up then gets real sluggish Tractor Supply: SAE10 hydralic fluid. Again slugish and weak.

Getting tired of changing oil every weekend!
Thanks in advance!

The book on my 56 420 says 10W non-detergent.

10W NON DETERGENT is the proper oil to use. Same as 40, 420, 430. This formulation does not foam under high temps. or under pressure as regular detergent oils. This is why it was sluggish on the other oils.

I believe it should be 10w motor oil. I bought some from JD dealer. Brand name of HYgard best I remember. Came in gallon Jug. Should work fine if all else is ok.

I use a good quality power steering oil in mine - no foam, no jerking. Whatever you use, don't make it ATF.

OK, why can't you use regular hydraulic oil?
My son has an MT and we are getting ready to fire it up. We were going to use hydraulic oil, now I'm really not sure. Thanks guys,
Jeff
